Vanessa Wittemann second place at ECSR best thesis prize

Vanessa Wittemann has received second place in the European Consortium for Sociological Research (ECSR) Prize for the best PhD thesis of 2026, awarded to the best theoretically based empirical study in sociology.

With her dissertation “Reframing Reproduction: A Prospective Approach to the Intergenerational Transmission of Educational Attainment and Political Orientation”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Thomas Leopold and Prof. Dr. Karsten Hank, she convinced the jury by addressing a highly relevant sociological topic with novel methodological and conceptual tools.

 The jury particularly highlighted how her thesis integrates a prospective approach into the study of intergenerational transmission of political orientations, offering fresh insights into this field of research.
